Have you ever been living in your own country, and a foreigner who is living in your country is always bitching and ranting about how awful it is there?
I have. Twice that I can distinctly remember:
One was a chica from Uruguay, her name might have been Andrea...yes it was Andrea. She got herself knocked up (most likely on purpose) by one of my Iranian boyfriend´s friends. Everytime we got together she would moan about how boring Canada was, and how back in her country you could run around topless (and dear God, please do not let her run around naked, that would be soooooo scary!). How Uruguay is so much fun blah blah blah, and how she hated living in Canada sooooo much! Granted Uruguay is really quite nice, I still dream of the beaches and would really like to go there now. But this I would not tolerate from her, I said "Bitch shut the FUCK UP! The father of your child and his friends risked everything to leave Iran possibly never seeing their families again to have a better life! Here you are sitting on your fat ass, probably receiving welfare benefits, because you never have a freakin´ job! If hate it so much here, there is nothing stopping you from returning to URUGUAY! Maybe you should leave! Someother foreign person will gladly take your place." Needless to say, Andrea didn´t like me too much.
The second person was a woman from Germany, who lived somewhere in China. I believe her name was Christine. Her husband was in Vancouver for several months revamping one of the many distinguished hotels. I was working in one of the poshest hotel spas at the time. Christine was given to me, as I was the only one who could handle troublesome clients.
For the entire time of her treatments, all she did was complain about the city. "I hate the quality of the light here. It´s not right. I would spend summers in Italy where the light is just perfect." "You do not have good cheese here, or sausage." (And tell me, you can find good quality cheese in China. I thought) "The treatments are not the same here as they are in Europe." (Gee that must be because you are scaring the poor estheticians by having a three inch clitoris and not wearing any underwear! What the hell are you doing with that thing? Geez...where your parents those jacked up supersteroid olympic atheletes?). On and on she went. Unfortunately I couldn´t tell her to Shut the Fuck up, as I did with Andrea. Everyone would just roll their eyes when she walked in the door.
The moral of this story is, perhaps if you are living in a foreign country and are not particularly enjoying your experience, you are not exactly going to make friends with the locals complaining about their beloved country. Tact and diplomacy are best employed in these situations. Or else be wary of the wrath that may incur.

Oh my goodness do you know how to make me laugh.
Sometimes I like to discuss with my Italian friends some of the things that I think could be changed when we have political conversations, etc., but it is done in an intelligent manner and always followed by "but what I think is WONDERFUL is this..." because hey - I didn't come here to change Italy. It is what it is, and I love it love it love it.
glad you're savoring your experience in Argentina. :-)
your moral might might be good but people might be in a country for many reasons .
I have found argentine people actually to moan more about their country and people than just about any other country I have lived in,
Hi, I came in from Dalila's blog.
Had great fun readin this one.
Some people are only stuffed with stupidity and they make an aas out of themselves every time they think they have conveyed something worthwhile.
Hi Anon.
Sure people moan about the state of their country all the time, but it is like moaning about your family and how they drive you crazy. It is okay for you to do it, but you talk bad about my mama, and someone just might kick your trifin´ culo! Same goes for slagging someone else´s homeland.
PLEASE, PASS THE WORD TO YOUR FELLOW´S EX PATS HERE PLEASE?
IM TIRED OF PEOPLE BITCHING ABOUT EVERYTHING IN ARGENTINA.
I know me too...I have dropped off all the ex-pat lists here as I found them quite tedious and tiresome with all the complaining.
