Farewell Club Español

Caroline informed me of the closing of the milonga Chique at Club Español. I am truly depressed. Chique was my favorite milonga! Anyhow I leave you with the milonga review I had written for a website on Buenos Aires, since we won´t be publishing it now, you may as well read it here.

Well I am finally off to Uruguay for a few days. Vamos a la playa! We are going to the beach! And of course it is RAINING! Alas I just need a change of scene and fresh air.

Un Beso,
Miss Tango

This afternoon once a week event is not to be missed! Chique also known simply as Club Español because of the location, is renowned as ¨The Milonga most Elegant of Buenos Aires¨, and it most certainly is! The milonga is located in a gorgeous yet eclectic Spanish art nouveau building, still impeccably maintained, designed by dutch architect Enrique Folker in 1908. Every surface is embellished with some sort of mosaic tiling, gold trim and voluptuous female forms everywhere. Perhaps the birdcage elevator, may inspire you to reenact Baz Luhrman´s Romeo and Juliet, first kiss scene, hopefully you have a very handsome Romeo, or lovely Juliet with you as you ascend lip locked to the second floor. The piece de resistance is the copper cupola with an angel that adorns the roof top.
Chique attracts the professional types, who may not other wise be seen at other milongas. Perhaps observe a few secret love affairs taking place, after all Wednesdays and Thursdays in Buenos Aires are the days for extra marital affairs.
Ladies don´t feel shy on wearing your full tango regalia, long opera gloves, fishnet stockings, corsets and all before 6pm. Sexy and hot is the look here, and it is not just for the young! Sexy doesn´t end at sixty here in Buenos Aires, it is only getting started! The usual nibbles are available, medialunas, empanadas, picadas including a well stocked bar.
Julio Auliel, is your gracious host for the afternoon, and Dany the Musicalizador play the most beautiful tandas, that will take you back to times long gone.
Thursdays 16 to 23 hs. Damas 7pesos, caballeros 8. Air conditioned, but you still may want to bring your fan.
El Club Español can be found at, Bernardo de Irigoyen 172 piso 2. beside avenida 9 de julio, 2 blocks from Avenida de Mayo.
